Day 1, Sunday – Montego Bay
Touch down on Jamaican soil in Montego Bay. Jamaica’s second city greets you with promises of pleasure. Much to see, feel, and experience, your
Jamaica Discovery Adventure has officially begun. The lush land and idyllic breeze embrace. The mountainous beach town that is Montego Bay, is bordered by turquoise sea and softly reverberates reggae rhythms, displaying island art and fine cuisine; a true feast for the senses. Check in at your hotel and experience hospitality at its finest. There are no planned activities until the welcome meeting with your Tour Leader and other group members – the Hotel front desk will inform you of the meeting time and location.
Day 2, Monday – Montego Bay to Ocho Rios to Portland (B)
This morning we travel to Ocho Rios for the Jamaica Discovery included activity –
Dunn’s River Falls, Jamaica’s most spectacular waterfall cascading over 600 feet down to meet the Caribbean Sea. Climbing the waterfalls with your Dunn’s River guide is a once in a life time experience. After lunch, we continue on our way to Portland where we’ll spend the next two nights. Portland considered by many as the most beautiful place in Jamaica, it’s exotic, lush, rainy, many huge trees, predominantly green but with lots of colourful flowers, great bird life, cool rivers, waterfalls, beautiful beaches and the Blue Mountains is always in view. Portland is also very romantic, sexy, low keyed, laid back, rural, not touristy and the home of jerk cuisine and the Charles Town Marron Village.
Day 3, Tuesday – Portland (B):
Today we offer the Jamaica Discovery included activity of a trip to the
Blue Lagoon – made famous by the movie of the same name – this is an azure abyss which is reputed to be bottomless. From the Blue Lagoon you have the option to visit
Monkey Island by boat or bamboo raft. Other options for today are
Reach Falls, Frenchman’s Cove Beach, Rafting on the Rio Grande River or visit the
Charles Town Maroon Village – a journey into history, learn the story of the Maroons – runaway slaves who fought against the British during the 17th to 19th centuries. Participate in indigenous dancing, singing and drumming with the community members. Learn how to blow the Abeng and you’ll be served traditional Maroon food after which you can relax or take a swim in the river that runs next to the settlement.
Day 4, Wednesday – Portland to Kingston (B):
This morning we depart Portland and head to Kingston – where Jamaica’s culture is most dynamic and there’s never a dull moment! Today’s included activity is the
Bob Marley Museum – located at Bob Marley’s former residence. You will hear of Marley’s unique and impactful story. This afternoon you may also be interested in an optional tour of
Marley’s Trench Town Culture Yard and
Tuff Gong Studio. With a little more energy, this evening you may explore Kingston’s famous nightlife, with lots of reggae, dancehall music and good vibes.
Day 5, Thursday – Kingston (B):
Today is a free day – you can decide what you want to do – your options are: relax, sunbath and navigate your way through the numerous cocktails your willing bartender at the Hotel will concoct for you; or take a tour of
Port Royal, 14th century stomping ground of some of the “New World’s” most infamous and often notorious pirates; follow your guide and view the evidence of Jamaica’s swash-buckling era, or take a boat trip to
Lime Cay, Kingston’s offshore paradise – a private haven, 15 minutes off Port Royal. Or leave the city behind for the day and venture up into the famous coffee-producing
Blue Mountains. The lush hills and fresh air are a nice break from the coastal heat. Tour a coffee plantation and enjoy a cup of the area’s black gold. Or visit the
National Gallery, Or discover Kingston on a
City Tour. Or take a
Dancehall Dance Class.
Day 6, Friday – Kingston to Treasure Beach (B)
Departing Kingston we take on another Jamaica Discovery included activity designed to lift your spirits –
Appleton Estate Rum Tour. Head into Jamaica’s picturesque countryside for a taste of the past and present. See sugar cane become magically transformed into Jamaica’s Premium Rums. The Appleton Estate first distilled rum in 1749. Learn how this luscious liquor goes from sugarcane, to molasses, then sugar, and finally becomes Rum. Sample blends for age, taste and strength, then pick up a bottle (or two) to take home. CAUTION: Your rewarding rum samples will leave a promising tingle. From Appleton we head to Negril with a stop in Middle Quarters (famous for peppered shrimp) to experience Jamaican street food for lunch, or you can opt instead to try our local fast food – patty (chicken, beef, vegetation, shrimp, etc). After lunch we make our way to Treasure Beach where we take up our lodgings for the next two (2) nights. A great option this afternoon is to make your own dinner at a Jamaican Cooking Class.
Day 7, Saturday – Treasure Baech (B)
Wake up in Treasure Beach which is not on the average tourists’ radar, and we hope it stays that way! One of the quaintest spot on earth that will seamlessly claim you as a Local. Spend the day enjoying paradise any way you want. Today you have the option to experience Jamaica Discovery’s most fantastic activity –
Dolphin Quest, Black River Safari and Pelican Bar – this is a local boat ride to search for dolphins and crocodiles in their natural environment. Travel about 10 minutes offshore to await dolphins on their morning swim. From there, head to where the Caribbean Sea meets the Black River and cruise upstream to see the Jamaican crocodile and over 100 spices of birds native to the Black River Morass . See how the locals use the river for their livelihood – fishing and shrimping. Once you arrive upstream you’ll stop at the Jamaica Discovery spot where you’ll make like Tarzan and Jane and have a swim in the rejuvenating waters of the Black River. Leaving Black River our next destination is Pelican Bar.
PELICAN BAR: picture a mass of driftwood, nailed together to create a basic structure, covered by a palm thatch roof and supported by stilts, sitting on a sandbar in the middle of the ocean. This quaint island-in-the-sea lounge is like nothing you’ve ever seen – at Pelican Bar, have a drink, swim, sunbathe or just chill and soak up the lazy sun-drenched vibe.
Other options to enjoy from Treasure Beach are YS Falls, Visit to the Accompong Maroon Village, Lovers Leap, etc.
Day 8, Sunday – Treasure Beach to Negril (B)
From Treasure Beach we’re off to Negril…Today’s Jamaica Discovery included activity is
Rick’s Cafe – located on the western edge of the Island – experience the amazing Negril Sunset and the thrill of cliff diving. Whether you’re brave enough to take the plunge, or just happy to watch the locals take dives from the tops of trees before the sun sets, this is one of Jamaica’s ‘must see, must do’ activities
Day 9, Monday – Negril (B)
Free days in Negril – Seven (7) miles of white sand beach will call, and your response will be languorous moments of pure pleasure; all day just soak it up! Walk the beach, visit the cliffs, rock dive, scuba dive, wind surf, parasail or do nothing at all and relax in a hammock – our Negril Hotel is the launching pad to the perfect Jamaican nights. Do as much or as little as you like – Negril is yours.
Day 10, Saturday – Negril(B)
Travel to Montego Bay where the tour ends. Departure from the Negril Hotel is at 10:00am and there will be two stops in Montego Bay – one at the Airport and the other at the start Hotel.
